Dr. Huang was born in Taiwan, and moved to the United States at the age of two. He considers Plant City, Florida, as his home town, and his parents still live in this suburb of Tampa. Dr. Huang went to dental school at the University of Florida, after which he attended the University of Washington for his orthodontic education. He then returned to practice orthodontics in Plant City for ten years. In 1999, Dr. Huang decided to pursue an academic career, and he accepted a faculty position in the UW Department of Orthodontics.
Over the years, Dr. Huang has been involved with numerous NIH-funded research projects, and he has published more than 50 scientific articles. He is well-known as a proponent of evidence-based dentistry, and he recently co-edited an evidence-based orthodontics textbook. He has lectured nationally and internationally at many orthodontic meetings. Dr. Huang is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Angle Society, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He serves on the Editorial Boards of several orthodontic journals, and is an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Since 2008, Dr. Huang has also served as Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the UW.
Dr. Huang lives in Bellevue with his wife, Shu-Fen, and his two children, Lucas and Meghan. He enjoys racquetball, hiking, piano, and photography.
